CHECKING VEGAS HOTEL PRICES: THEY DROPPED CLOSER TO
NEW YEAR'S EVE
Updated December 28, 2016 Since we first started
to check Vegas hotel and casino room rates more than a month ago, we have found that prices first increased for New Year's
Eve and then they decreased dramatically at most of the casino resorts we followed. When we checked prices on December 28th,
we found some prices reduced by several hundred dollars a night.
However, various hotels and casino
resorts in Vegas will require guests to check-in on the 30th and overall it appears that the prices for two nights are generally
higher than what they were a month ago. Frankly you don't want to be driving around Vegas on December 31st because of the
traffic and the street closures so you do want to arrive on December 30th. Remember the Vegas Strip will be shut down and
some of the freeway off ramps feeding the Strip area will also be shut down on December 31st at 5-PM as the area gets ready
for the street party and fireworks.
The room rates that are online are not necessarily what you
will be paying. On top of the posted room rates there are various fees which might be called "resort fees" and there
are the taxes. The list below shows the rates published on the various websites of the resorts and if you have a history playing
and staying at these casinos you might be entitled to a lower rate and in some cases you might be invited for free for the
holiday weekend if you have a history of substantial casino play. The list shows the resort and the first price is for December
30th followed by the room rate for New Year's Eve.
$349 $549 reduced $230 per night Paris
Las Vegas $279 $329 reduced at least $50 per night Bellagio $169
$699 NYE reduced by $20, big drop on the 30th Aria
$159 $729 Up $100 on NYE MGM Grand
$169 $445 Up slightly on NYE Wynn
$350 $350 See their website for web specials Red Rock $160
$320 Big price drop Palace Station
$95 $270 Up slightly on NYE, big drop on the 30th
Keep in mind that these prices are not set in stone and they are likely to change as we get closer to the holiday.
Prices could rise or fall depending on early bookings. When you book your reservation ask about the hotel's cancelation policy
because you might find you have to pay a cancelation fee if you try to cancel without several days notice. If you are a member
of the casino's player's club or loyalty club call the club and ask if there are promotions or special rates available. And
definitely check the online travel sites to determine if they have some better price.
SPECIAL SHOWS AT THE ICE HOUSE IN PASADENA
Comedy Central star Jo Koy headlines the New Year's Eve shows at the Ice House comedy club in Pasadena. Tickets are
$60 and there is a two-drink person and non-alcoholic drinks can be purchased. There will also be party favors, a champagne
toast and you will receive a pass for two admissions to a future Ice House comedy show. There are still tickets for the show
at 7:30-PM but the 10-PM show is sold out.
There is also a smaller stage at the Ice House where
there is another show starting at 8-PM featuring two acts, Ron Pearson and Rene Garcia. Ron Pearson is a
comedian, actor and a word record juggler that The Hollywood Reporter called "a comic ball of fire." Rene Garcia
has appeared on NBC's Last Comic Standing and is currently on Showtime. Tickets for this second show at 8-PM are $30 with
a two drink minimum and there is a 10:30-PM show at $45 per person.

for all shows.
CASINO MORONGO OFFERS LIVE ENTERTAINMENT, DINING OPTIONS
December 6, 2016 Casino Morongo which is about 90 minutes from downtown Los Angeles just off the 10 Freeway, has
announced three different live entertainment and three different dining options for New Year's Eve. The entertainment includes
county, pop and jazz live music. The dining options range from $30 per person at Cafe Serrano (the 24-hour restaurant on the
casino floor) to $30.95 per person at the Buffet to $110 per person at Cielo. Tax is extra. You should call the Morongo box
office for reservations at 866-328-2018.
Morongo is also offering some generous
free play offers to members of its players club and this is surprising. Normally, casinos are jammed on New Year's Eve and
there is no need to offer free play as an incentive to get customers, but Morongo is not only offering guaranteed free play
but it is also going to have drawings throughout the day and night awarding free play and sometimes as much as $1,000 per
person. I have been told of guaranteed free play offers in the range of $450 which is a substantial offer considering that
on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day most casinos offer nothing.
BICYCLE CASINO GIVES FREE MEALS TO SEATED PLAYERS
Update December 6, 2016 Just in case you wanted to play poker or gamble at other table games, and
you don't really care about entertainment, Bicycle Casino in Bell near the 710 Freeway is giving free meals to seated players
on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. The Bike recently opened a hotel at the property.
HUEY LEWIS & THE NEWS AT AGUA CALIENTE
Update November 29, 2016 1980s and 1990s rock stars Huey Lewis & The News will be the New Year's
Eve entertainment at the Agua Caliente Casino Resort and Spa in Rancho Mirage. Tickets start at $105 and the top orchestra
seats are $125 each. I wasn't able to find rooms available for a check-in on December 31st which isn't unusual as most casino-resorts
want you to arrive prior to New Year's Eve. The TV commercial for the event is below.
CAESARS PALACE NEW YEAR'S EVE VIP PARTY MAY DISAPPOINT
Update October 29, 2016 This year's VIP party at Caesars Palace may be a big disappointment. While
it is not 100% certain, it seems that the entertainment for this year's party for Seven Stars and Diamond players and other
invited guests will be the musical group Back Street Boys along with Calvin Harris. Some insiders at Caesars are worried that
neither will appeal to the guests who will be attending the VIP event. Adding to the worry, is that the Back Street Boys will
soon begin a residency in Vegas and having them at Caesars for New Year's might not be considered as anything special. However,
it's possible that Caesars managers might be thinking that the VIP New Year's Eve event would be the appropriate venue for
introducing the Back Street Boys and their residency at Planet Hollywood starting in March.
Harris has a residency as the "disc jockey" at Omnia, the club at Caesars and it is unclear what his New Year's
Eve performance will be. Some are thinking that the VIP entertainment will have the format of a dance club with Harris spinning
records and then the Back Street Boys will make a live appearance. But insiders at Caesars are worried that format won't fit
the demographic of the VIP guests who are mostly older and in past years were treated to concerts featuring current stars.
Sting will be at the Cosmopolitan in Las
Vegas for their New Year's Eve concert. Tickets start at $200 plus taxes and fees and will go on sale October 21st and they
are available online at www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com or through ticketmaster at 800-745-3000.
The Cosmopolitan Ice Rink at Boulevard Pool will host a New Year's Eve fireworks viewing celebration with skating,
an open bar, and a live DJ on New Year's Eve. Early bird tickets start at $49 per person plus service fees, and regular priced
tickets are $99 per person plus fees. Tickets include open bar, complimentary skating and skate rentals. The event is complimentary
to hotel guests. Tickets are available online at www.cosmopolitanlasvegas.com or through ticketmaster at 800-745-3000.
Elton John will have four shows during the
New Year's holiday period at Caesars Palace. He will be performing on December 28 and 29, and on New Year's Eve, and on January
Bruno Mars will have a show
at the new Park Theater in Las Vegas on New Year's Eve. His show will also be on December 30th. The new Park Theater is part
of the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
Maroon 5 will be at the Mandalay Bay Events Center on New Year's Eve with tickets ranging from $99.50
to $250 each. There is also a show on December 30th.
TOTAL REWARDS SENDS OUT INVITATIONS FOR LAS VEGAS FESTIVITIES
Update October 29, 2016 The Total Rewards players' club program has sent out invitations for the various
Total Rewards casinos in Las Vegas. The package of invitations we saw did not include Caesars Palace. There were six invitations
(see the photo above) plus a cover and they included:
PARIS LAS VEGAS Two tickets to the
New Year's Eve party; two tickets to the New Year's Day brunch; hotel room for up to five nights at Paris or Bally's.
PLANET HOLLYWOOD Two tickets to the New Year's Dinner; two tickets to the New Year's Day brunch at Paris; hotel
room for up to five nights.
HARRAH'S LAS VEGAS $300 casino play; two tickets to the New
Year's Eve Dinner; Two tickets to the New Year's Day Brunch at The LINQ; hotel room for up to five nights.
RIO $300 casino play; two tickets to the New Year's Eve dinner buffet; two tickets to the New Year's Day Brunch;
hotel room for up to five nights.
FLAMINGO $300 casino play; two tickets to the New Year's
Eve Dinner Buffet; two tickets to the New Year's Day Brunch at The LINQ; hotel room for up to five nights.
THE LINQ $150 resort credit for use at any Caesars Entertainment owned restaurant or facility; two tickets
to the New Year's Eve Celebration under the stars; two tickets to the New Year's Day Brunch; hotel room for up to five nights.
Not included in this package was the invitation to the VIP event at Caesars Palace which I am sure is limited to
higher level players. This particular package was sent to a Platinum player with Total Rewards; other players could receive
other offers. There is no show being offered in any of the offers this year, but there were show offers at some of the hotels
A second package of invitations was sent out to Seven Stars and other higher-level
players with Total Rewards that included $600 of free play at certain casinos and an invitation to the VIP party at Caesars
Palace. For these players there will be a New Year's Eve show and dinners in the ballrooms at Caesars Palace.
